East Cambridge Planning Team has a 15 acre problem right across the tracks from you,Greetings neighbors, My name is Mark Jaquith and I am a member of the East Cambridge Planning Team (ECPT) and chair of the committee that we set up to study the Alexandria up-zoning petition that is before the City Council. Alexandria Real Estate Equities Inc. (ARE) has purchased 17 acres of land in E. Cambridge, mostly along Binney St. They build and lease research labs to biotech firms. ARE wants to build on most of these sites. Current zoning allows 700,000 sq. ft. They want 1.8 million. We worked with them and the city and got them to include retail housing, and community center space. Then at the last minute they just added the housing and retail sq. ft. on top and chopped 2/3 of the community space off. There is an Ordinance Committee meeting Wed. Feb. 5 at 5PM in city hall Please come out and support your neighbors across the tracks. You have Beal Co. breathing down your neck, We will help if we can.
